Walcot and Parks History Exhibition.
The Pride in Place team welcomed residents to Buckhurst Community Centre on Tuesday the 15th of September.All for a special exhibition celebrating the history and heritage of Walcot and Parks.
The Walcot and Parks Heritage Day featured a photographic exhibition. It visualised the changing face of the area from the late 1800s through to the present day.

The Pride in Place team organised the event through South Swindon Parish Council.
It was also put on as part of Heritage Open Days, the national celebration of England’s history and culture. While local resident Margaret, put the collection together.
The Pride in place team invited residents to contribute their own historic photographs to the exhibition. Thus helping to build a picture of how Walcot and Parks have changed over the generations. Displays took visitors through the area’s history chronologically. All beginning with photographs from the late 1800s to the 1940s. It then progressed decade by decade up to the present day.
Throughout the day, residents explored the exhibition and enjoyed free hot drinks and snacks. They shared their own memories of the area. They also had the opportunity to speak with Margaret, members of the Pride in Place team and Walcot and Parks Neighbourhood Board Chair Jessica Higgins.
South Swindon Parish Council’s Community Engagement Officer Millie Lawlor who put on the event as part of the Pride in Place team said:

Looking ahead
Following the exhibition, Margaret is now looking to establish a Walcot and Parks history group in January. That will continue collecting, documenting and celebrating the area’s heritage.
