Swindon in 50 Buildings

Swindon in 50 Buildings
Following the 2018 publication of my first non-fiction book, Secret Swindon, Amberley Books commissioned Swindon in 50 Buildings. July 2019 saw publication of this title.

A work in progress on the blog is Swindon in 5 More buildings. I’m using that to widen the remit from that which this publication allowed. In addition, I’m taking this new set of posts out into the wider borough. I’m using it too, to fill in gaps of buildings that I would have loved to include here but I had to make choices. For example, The Oasis I couldn’t find a space for nor all the buildings in the railway quarter. Isambard House, Churchward House, STEAM museum etc.

You may have got the idea by now that my favourite building in Swindon is the David Murray John Tower.

Here I am outside the Baker’s Cafe in the Railway Village talking to Roger Ogle, about the book.

Also on the subject of architecture, see this ‘Made in Wiltshire’ feature about Dona Bradley, architectural illustrator. Both she and Marilyn Trew made wonderful artistic contributions to the book.
