Swindon in 50 more buildings

COMING SOON

Following the 2018 publication of my first non-fiction book, Secret Swindon, Amberley Books commissioned Swindon in 50 Buildings. July 2019 saw publication of this title. But even before the ink dried on that first volume I knew there had to be a sequel. What with Swindon being Swindon. So Swindon in 50 More Buildings was a foregone conclusion.

But of course the pandemic happened and got in the way of working on the book. Then, together with Roger Ogle and Frances Bevan, I got involved with our book about West Swindon. So once more it got shelved.

But at last, FIVE years later, it’s here. Well – almost.

A wider remit

I’ve used this book to widen the remit from that which this publication allowed. I’ve taken this new set of posts – and the book – out into the wider borough. And used it to fill in gaps of buildings that I would have loved to include in the first book but had to make choices. For example, The Oasis.

Nor could I find a space for all the buildings in the railway quarter – buildings such as Isambard House, Churchward House, STEAM museum etc. So I’ve rectified that. Had I included all those then I might have ended up with Swindon in 50 Railway Buildings and that wouldn’t have been the same book at all.

There will be a launch

I’m going to have the launch at Fika coffee shop. I’ll make a Facebook event and put info here. So keep checking back.
