Swindon in 50 Buildings
Following the 2018 publication of my first non-fiction book, Secret Swindon, Amberley Books commissioned Swindon in 50 Buildings. July 2019 saw publication of this title.
There’s now a Swindon in 50 More buildings series on the blog. I’ve used that to widen the remit from that which this publication allowed.
In addition, I’ve taken this new set of posts out into the wider borough. And used it to fill in gaps of buildings that I would have loved to include here but I had to make choices. For example, The Oasis. Nor could I find a space for nor all the buildings in the railway quarter – buildings such as Isambard House, Churchward House, STEAM museum etc. So I’ve rectified that.

You may have got the idea by now that my favourite building in Swindon is the David Murray John Tower.

Here I am outside the Baker’s Cafe in the Railway Village talking to Roger Ogle, about the book.

Here’s an early post on this blog touching on some of Swindon’s iconic buildings such as the Spectrum Building and the Link Centre.
Also on the subject of architecture, see this ‘Made in Wiltshire’ feature about Dona Bradley, architectural illustrator. Both she and Marilyn Trew made wonderful artistic contributions to the book.
