Calling all poets, storytellers, and lovers of Swindon’s vibrant arts scene! Here at Poetry Swindon we’re thrilled to launch our 2025 writing competition. We’re inviting the local community to get inspired by the town’s visual art in all its forms—from bold murals to gallery masterpieces. And there’s no lack of inspiration around the town – the images below being a small sample!

Swindon’s Scintillating Summer of Art. The art scene in Swindon goes from strength to strength each year. And 2025 looks like being even better. Regular art followers will already know about Swindon Open Studios. This is where artists across Swindon open their studio doors and invite the public to see what goes on behind the scenes in September. This year they’ve broken out of their studios, spare rooms and sheds a little earlier to take part in Swindon Arts Fringe (SWAF) with a curated exhibition entitled ‘I SOS.’

Golden Lion Bridge Mural Refreshed by Swindon artist Tim Carroll. Made possible by Artsite and the Post Modern and Swindon Borough Council, the Golden Lion Bridge mural, first painted by Ken White in 1976, has had a refresh fit for the 21st century.
Athelstan Museum Volunteer Call
Athelstan Museum Volunteer Call. The Athelstan Museum in Malmesbury is appealing for more volunteers to come forward during Volunteer Week (Monday June 2 to Sunday June 8). The museum is the central hub for local history in the town. All with exhibitions about Athelstan and Malmesbury’s history. It has on permanent display, an original watercolour of Malmesbury Abbey painted by the celebrated artist J. M. W. Turner.
