The county of Wiltshire celebrates Wiltshire Day on the 5th June. Never heard of it? Read on!
The British county flags website tells us that the reason for the day is to commemorate the date, in 2007, when the Great Bustard flag first flew on County Hall in Trowbridge.
Paralympian to commentate at Wimbledon
Former British wheelchair tennis player, and local girl, Louise Hunt is set to share her expertise while commentating at this year’s Wimbledon championships in the final week. (from July 7 to July 10).
No stranger to the commentary box, Louise made her debut covering the 2013 event. Yet, this will be Louise’s first involvement in her home grand slam since retiring from elite competitive sport in 2021.

SOMAG hopes for positive engagement
The SOMAG campaign group welcomes the appointment of councillor Matty Courtliff to the Cabinet. Matty is SBC’s new Cabinet member for culture, heritage, leisure and town centre experience.
A spokesperson for SOMAG said: ‘the group hopes this appointment will mark the start of proactive and positive engagement over the future of the town’s museum and art collections.

Selected from over a hundred entries, Wilderland is now back for its third year touring the 2022 official selection showcase.
BIG JUBILEE LUNCH IN QUEEN’S PARK
On Sunday 5 June, South Swindon Parish Council will host a Big Jubilee Lunch in Queen’s Park to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
You’re all invited to bring along a picnic and join together on the glade opposite the hot house. There’ll be an afternoon of entertainment from ZambaLando, who recently performed to an enthusiastic crowd at the Town Garden’s bandstand. There’ll also be a chance to take part in arts and crafts, games and competitions.
RPA Supports Low Income Families
Swindon-based Revolution Performing Arts (RPA) – one of the South West’s leading performing arts companies for children and young people – has been supporting the Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF). Marcus Rashford MBE launched the programme last year.

Marc Morris and the Dark Ages
Channel 4 television presenter, Marc Morris will be a special guest speaker at the Athelstan Museum on Saturday May 7. He’ll be there to share his insights into the Anglo Saxons and the so-called ‘Dark Ages’.
FREE BANDSTAND CONCERTS ARE BACK
Concerts at the Town Garden’s bandstand and in Queen’s Park are back by popular demand. And they’re kicking off this Sunday, 1st May, with an extra special launch concert from the North Swindon Big Band in the Town Garden’s Bowl.
