Switch on to Swindon
So last night I went to the launch event of ‘Switch on to Swindon’. As someone who’s spent the past 4 years (almost) using this blog to shout about Swindon how can I fail to support this?
‘Switch on to Swindon is a campaign designed to highlight the strength of Swindon as a great place in which to live, work, invest in and visit. It will celebrate Swindon’s hidden gems and symbols of change – keynote developments and changes. By showing people, both inside and outside of Swindon, just how positive doing business and living here can be, we can shout about the Swindon story and ensure it prospers.’
‘EVEN IF YOU’VE NEVER TAKEN JUNCTION 15 OR 16 OFF THE M4, OR HOPPED OFF THE TRAIN BETWEEN BRISTOL AND PADDINGTON, IT’S ALMOST CERTAIN THAT SWINDON HAS ALREADY TOUCHED YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS SWINDON IS REACHING OUT ACROSS THE UK AND BEYOND TO MAKE IT EVEN EASIER FOR AMBITIOUS ENTREPRENEURS, INNOVATIVE COMPANIES AND TALENTED EMPLOYEES TO SWITCH ON TO SWINDON..’
Umm – I have to say that paragraph needs some punctuation! And losing the block capitals. *Thinks* 😉
Anyway… here’s the Facebook page – visit it and see the great video made by Create Studios. It’s on the website too.
There’s lots to worry about in the town right now – what with the Health Hydro happenings and the loss of the building housing the agricultural machinery at Coate Water. It would be a lie to pretend otherwise.
So I’m much heartened by this Switch on to Swindon initiative and also the partnership project happening with Forward Swindon Ltd, the BIDCo in Swindon and SBC that’s focusing on attracting businesses to take on available town centre units – more of that another time.
It’s so, so easy to knock Swindon. And God knows plenty of people do. And, I venture to suggest, that a great many of them of born and bred not born again. But, as someone commented on the Switch on Facebook page: ‘There are lots of young entrepreneurs in this town who are doing things but most people are happier being miserable than getting behind them. Well done on this video and good luck with the campaign.’
And not just young entrepreneurs either – there’s old ones too like me and my AA Editorial Services. Well business owner if not entrepreneur.
So come on people of Swindon. Get behind this and give it half a chance! Become an ambassador: http://switchontoswindon.com/ambassadors/ and help the process along.
