Volunteers needed for the children’s fete
The Children’s Fete
Saturday 8th July 2017
The Mechanics’ Institution Trust is planning the 2017 Children’s Fete after last year’s successful 150th anniversary celebration.Â
Can you help? The Children’s fete needs volunteers to make it happen!
For background to the Children’s Fete see this earlier post about the children’s fete:Â https://swindonian.me/2017/06/01/the-childrens-fete/
I’m sure you can imagine how much volunteer help such an event needs. If you can help in any way on this day the please step forward. They’d love to hear from you.
Email: thechildrensfete@mechanics-trust.org.uk / tom@mechanics-trust.org.uk or call the Mechanics’ Trust office on (01793) 520592 or Tom on 07967 217525. If they can’t answer right away leave a message. They’ll get back to you!
Please, please, please help the MIT to put the word out. They need as much help as possible to publicise the event. Talk to everyone you know. Word of mouth works like a charm in a town like Swindon!
Drop by, like and share their Facebook page – facebook.com/childrensfete and please click attending and invite your friends and family to the event page.
Please pass on these details to all those who you think could be a good fit for the event. As well as stallholders and performers, we’re also always in need of friendly faces to be volunteers or run activities on the day.
The Roles in More Detail:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Setting up the event – This can involve anything from walking vehicles on or off site, putting up marquees or fences, moving stock, providing information to people about the event etc.
Roaming Stewards –Â A vital and very sociable role; keeping an eye on the general public and looking out for their safety and well-being, clearing litter, informing head stewards of any hazards or disorder, being vigilant for any suspect/abandoned packages/bags, looking out for lost children, providing information to the general public etc.
Gate Stewards – Â Â Â Â Â Â Â A fixed position on one of the gates would be assigned to you for a period of time, (depending on how long you can give on the day). As with roaming stewards, you will need to keep an eye out for public safety, reporting any issues to head stewards.
Runners/Breaks cover – We require a couple of people to be based at the information point, they will be assigned errands during the day; this will be very varied. We also need a couple of people to take over from people with specific roles to enable them to have a break.
Bar Staff                    – Serving drinks to the public, ensuring that all persons served are 18 or above in accordance with the challenge 25 policy. Bar experience preferred but not required.
Clearing the event –   Taking down marquees and fences, a bit of litter picking and packing up anything else that needs to be removed from the park. As we are setting the event down on the same day this year, a few extra hands will help speed up this process which shouldn’t last too long and can start while the event is still running.
