Public art needs you!
OOOHHH. Listeners. This is interesting!
Creative Wiltshire are running a project to ‘locate, record and photograph public art, namely artwork made by an artist, arts practitioner or craftsperson and located in publicly accessible spaces and places in Wiltshire.’
A call for volunteers…
‘We need the help of individuals and groups to gather data on public art in the community such as location of the item, its condition, what is known of it and a photograph of it in situ. Data collected as part of the project will be made available in the Local Studies Library at the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre with images deposited in the Historic Photograph and Print Collection.
The images will then be pinned to the Know Your Place site http://www.kypwest.org.uk to map their location geographically.
To register your interest please email firstname.lastname@example.org – or fill out the form on the website. https://creativewiltshire.com/get-involved/
Public Art in Swindon
If you want to get involved with this you don’t need to go far. Swindon has more public art than you can shake a stick at.
A root round this section of the blog will show you the extent of it: http://swindonian.me/category/public-art-sculpture/
But to highlight just some of it there is:
- The West Swindon Sculpture Trail: http://swindonian.me/category/artscultureheritage/west-swindon-sculpture-walk-artscultureheritage/
- The Great Blondinis: http://swindonian.me/2013/06/24/ten-things-i-like-about-swindon-no-4-the-sculptures-the-great-blondinis/
- The Wish Hounds: http://swindonian.me/2015/05/25/ten-things-to-celebrate-about-swindon-no-4-the-sculptures-e-the-wish-hounds/
But there’s more. Lots and lots more.
The school holidays are coming soon. Is this not a great way to get them outside and doing something that doesn’t cost a ton of dosh?
So let’s have a round of applause for Swindon’s public art: http://swindonian.me/2017/01/08/applause-sculpture-swindon/
